I would like to display the attribute filters in the center column, how would I accomplish this?

Here is an example:
http://www.carbonfiberhoods.com/exterior.html

I would like the "SHOP BY" filters displayed in the center css class of "col-main", I'm assuming I have to edit local.xml or something.  How do we do this?

Hey That's an easy one.

In your themes layout folder find catalog.xml
All you need to do is move the reference to the catalog.lefnav block to the content block.

This is the original Below(Just a portion of the code)
<catalog_category_layered translate="label">
        <label>Catalog Category (Anchor)</label>
        <reference name="left">
            <block type="catalog/layer_view" name="catalog.leftnav" after="currency" template="catalog/layer/view.phtml"/>
        </reference>
        <reference name="content">
            <block type="catalog/category_view" name="category.products" template="catalog/category/view.phtml">
                <block type="catalog/product_list" name="product_list" template="catalog/product/list.phtml">
                    <!-- <action method="addReviewSummaryTemplate"><type>default</type><template>review/helper/su.phtml</template></action> -->
                    <block type="catalog/product_list_toolbar" name="product_list_toolbar" template="catalog/product/list/toolbar.phtml">

Here is the modified code.
<catalog_category_layered translate="label">
        <label>Catalog Category (Anchor)</label>
        <reference name="left">
            <!--  <block type="catalog/layer_view" name="catalog.leftnav" after="currency" template="catalog/layer/view.phtml"/> -->
        </reference>
        <reference name="content">
        	<block type="catalog/layer_view" name="catalog.leftnav" after="currency" template="catalog/layer/view.phtml"/>
            <block type="catalog/category_view" name="category.products" template="catalog/category/view.phtml">

So I comment out the old line for the left column and added this in <content> in my catalog.xml

<block type="catalog/layer_view" name="catalog.leftnav" after="currency" template="catalog/layer/view.phtml"/>

Which seems to work great, visually it looks perfect,  but when I start filtering items I get errors..

Did you try navigating around with the menu in the center? (adding and removing filters?)

Do I need to edit this to get it to function properly?

app/design/frontend/base/default/template/catalog/layer/state.phtml
