Move shares from 2003 to 2008

Hello All,

Possibly a quick question - we have a VMware environment where I have a 2003 file server (server name - FS) with 1.4 TB of data ( about 150 shares) on Fibre channel Raw Disks. I'll have to move to a 2008 R2 Std server and was thinking of just unmounting the Raw disks from FS, shut it down, Create new 2008 VM with same name mout the raw disks and restore the lanmanserver\shares registry.

On my test lab, i can find that the registry export and import for moving shares from 2003 to 2008 doesn't work as the data in the registry key itself is different. Is there anyway that I could transfer the file shares (data doesn't have move as once i mount the fibre channel disks to 2008 VM, data will be there) to 2008 ?

Found answer to my question - http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=125996

Did try this before but wasn't working. turns out the 2008 server needed a restart. Silly me - forgot the fact that 'restart fixes almost everything' in windows. :)
