Log4J : Setting time interval on log files and how to detect if it's a new log file?

Before I create my own logging system I wanted to confirm if it was possible to :

1. Set the time interval that a Log4J logs eg: 24 hours
2. How do you determine when a new log file has started (as I would need to reset my counters for the new log file.

For the second question I think that you have to Override rollOver() method and everything shoud be OK, but you have to try this!
