colors used in xaml wpf

Hi experts,

In HTML the color codes for style sheets use hex notation such as #FFF000
So this color code has 6 hex values.

In xaml, colors that are used in the wpf colors I noticed that it is similar but instead of using 6 values it has 8 , so the color code for midnight blue is #FF191970

Does anyone know the technical term for the official name of the xaml color code system(chart)?
Also, do you know why it uses 8 hex values instead of 6 like on HTML

Thanks for your help

Extra information is there http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/system.windows.media.color%28VS.95%29.aspx. Not sure what the technical name is.
