Currently running our own Small Business Server 2003 and hosting our own email via exchange 2003. Dealing with continuous space/spam/archiving issues has lead me down the path toward using a hosting provider such as as Rackspace or Google Apps. Looking for suggestions and experienced recommendations.

if your only using exchange for mail  and not any of the calendar and appointments as-well as contacts  and shared public folders then maybe a hosted solution would be better for you. just remember exchange on sbs is limited to 75 Gb of email data  were as you will have to pay extra fro that amount of storage. also your giving up your company data to a 3rd party.  I personally do'nt like the idea (but im just paranoid )
what we recommend our clients  is t just rout their mail through a spam filter company before it routs to the exchange server

http://www.net24.co.nz/

may be cheaper for you  still get to keep your exchange server

if you need more space fro the mail just up the limits  there is a registry fix that lift the limit to 75 Gb

http://www.petri.co.il/change_store_size_limits_ex2003_sp2.htm

instructions to raise the limit of the store NB make sure your on SP2 or later

Hi,

For spam/antivirus control i would suggest ironport a cisco product it is good (check C650 ironport.com)
For mail server there are other email clients zimbra etc that you can use its per user licensing costin is around 5$ or 1$ per yr(check with zibra)
even oracle uses the cost effective email solution zimbra (web based) only. Aslo you can check for another mail solution scalx.

I would suggest you that you can go for zimbra for email server and use a hosted solution with the third party. This would recude
the cost as well spam/virus mail been received. The zimbra client (web based) can have a PoP3 access and can even be use with thunderbird or
with outlook express also. Also you can check for lotus live (IBM) which also provide the wbe based mail solution and takes care of backup and
storage of mail.
