Word 2007 Checkbox without Forms Protection

Is there a way to have a checkbox that can be clicked to check / uncheck without running the document in forms protected mode (word 2007)?

Answers not using visual basic preferred.

Accurate answer that solved my problem, but did not go into detail on how to access this feature.

Thanks for the help. Vogen, the link you sent is for the legacy checkbox that would require the document to be locked.
