LifeRay --- Providing web services for all portlet

Hi,

I am looking at providing web services to all portlet running on LifeRay.
Would are the options that are available to me?

I am not keen to use the service builder as it seems that it is more towards providing service that access the database. The services that I am building does not require access the database.
