Hi,
I've got one user who's Desktop icons (all) have gone. They can be seen from their desktop folder.
When I rt-click desktop and choose "arrange icons by" the options are greyed out and Show desktop Icons isn't there.
Ideas please!

Start >> Run >> Type GPEDIT.MSC then under User Configuration tab click on Administrative Templates >> Desktop >> Active Desktop >> Double-click Prohibit Changes Set it to Not Configured & Double-click Disable Active Desktop >> Set it to Not Configured

But I would recommend you to investigate this that how this thing was disabled. Could be of following reasons

1. Group Policy implemented from Active directory
2. Group policy mistakenly implemented by user
3. Any virus, Spyware or malware attack

in the above case i would recommend you to run following

1. Malwarebytes >>          http:www.malwarebytes.org
2. Superantispyware >>     http://www.superantispyware.com/
3. Hitmanpro's Surfright >> http://www.surfright.nl/en/hitmanpro

6. Bitdefender >>                http://kb.bitdefender.com/site/KnowledgeBase/consumer/#627
7. SPybot                            http://www.filehippo.com/download_spybot_search_destroy/

Thanks v much to the 1st 2 experts. The 3rd hasn't read my question!

I will try this tomorrow on site. I'm sure now it must be GP from AD but unsure how this one PC has reacted like this to a policy applied some months ago. The policy was added to stop users changing the desktop picture from the official one.

My answer was technically accurate but woefully short of detail, I nominate farjadarshad for full points.
