The button is in a modal dialog window. Ideally on clicking the said button the modal window should close and the form in the main window must be submitted. Thjis is what happens when i do this manually. When i perform this through the script, the modal window closes but the page in the parent window is not submitted.

nah, that won't work. The child window is a modal window dialog form.

Can you "hit the spacebar" when this button is "highlighted" instead of clicking on it?
