Backup Exec - When Should I choose to Partition My Type Library

Hello Friends;

I 'm trying to fix the backup setup for one of my clients. So I created 2 Media Sets - one for daily differential and one for Weekly backups. I also set the Overwrite protection period & Append Period for each Media Set.

I would like to know if I should partition the tape slots to prevent the types from moving from weekly to daily and vise versa?.

Thanks

I generally set up partitions in this situation, so daily and weekly tapes are always in their own slots. It makes it a lot easier if you take weekly tapes off-site, or rotate them, etc. You always pull from the same slots instead of having to check first. It also makes it easier to train non-technical users to rotate tapes, they never have to look anything up, they just pull the same tapes every time.

In addition, I find it's easier to manage your backup jobs, you can just point your jobs to a specific partition, and not rely on formatting new tapes and making sure they're part of the correct media set before first use.
