Can I call SOAP based web service from Cocoa Touch?

I am proting an app from c# win mobile to iPhone 4.  I would like to reuse existing web service.  Is this possible and if so what is involved

Note, I have no clue about iPhone dev.  I am being trained later on

webservices is not a part of the iOS SDK. So you will need to write your own solution.

Thanks for that.  The webservice was/is for extracting data from DB and writing data back to DB, that is all.  What is the best way to do that with iOS? CoreData?
