Hi,

I have upgraded SCCM with SP2 and we are trying to push the new SP2 clients to the computers.

I have used the following article.

http://www.windows-noob.com/forums/index.php?/topic/1164-configuration-manager-client-upgrade/

We have scheduled an advertisement and select the package that has been created while following the steps on the above article but the package does not get installed I get the following message:

  computerA   domain  user1   TPS   1   10018   Program rejected (wrong platform)   9/23/2010 4:53:15 PM   TPS200B6
  computerB  domain  user2  TPS   1   10018   Program rejected (wrong platform)   9/23/2010 5:26:08 PM   TPS200B6

Can we schedule and advertisement to go to a computer collection and upgrade the current agent?

Thank you.

The wrong OS was selected. I have choosen XPSP3 which is what we are running.

Now when the package runs it fails with the following message.

Program failed (unexpected restart)

The program for advertisement "TPS200B7" failed ("TPS00034" - "Advanced Client Silent Upgrade"). The program was able to be executed but the system was restarted unexpectedly before the program could be completed or before status could be recorded. No installation status MIF was found after the system restarted. Possible cause: The program performs a restart of the client computer when it completes, but the 'After running' setting in the program's properties is not set to Program restarts computer, or the client machine was restarted while the program was running. Solution: Verify the above. If the program does a restart when it completes, even if it only requires a restart in some cases, modify the program's properties and set 'After running' to 'Program restarts computer'.

The package installation just fails the computer does NOT get reestarted and the client does not get updated.

I am trying to upgrade the client SCCM SP2 with an advertisement and a package. Could this be done?

I have found the following post that says that the agent can not be upgraded with an advertisement.

http://social.technet.microsoft.com/forums/en-US/configmgrsetup/thread/25994286-bf92-4f27-876b-3449edfcb5fc

What are the other methods? Could some documentation/link about them?

The best way to do this is to create a query based collection of machines that do not have the latest version of the SCCM client. Once you do this, you can just right click the collection and choose the option 'Install Client' and follow the wizard.
The good thing about this is that as you upgrade the clients, the number of machines in this collection will keep decreasing. This is a good way to track your progress as well.

Let me know if you need help with the query.

Hi,

It is weird because the computers that I am trying to upgrade do not have the latest client installed. I would appreciate if you could help with the query?

thanks--

You can use this query or play around with it.

SELECT SMS_R_SYSTEM.ResourceID, SMS_R_SYSTEM.ResourceType, SMS_R_SYSTEM.Name, SMS_R_SYSTEM.SMSUniqueIdentifier, SMS_R_SYSTEM.ResourceDomainORWorkgroup, SMS_R_SYSTEM.Client
FROM SMS_R_System
WHERE SMS_R_System.ClientVersion != "4.00.6487.2000"

Here 4.00.6487.2000 is the version of SCCM Sp2's client. So this query will find all machines where the ClientVersion is not this. You can then right click this collection and select the action 'Install Client'
