The bookmarks in our PDFs (made from Windows InDesign CS4) are behaving weirdly when opened on certain Mac platforms. On a Mac running OSX 10.5.8, the bookmark titles are butchered; they're showing up as obscure strings of characters. On a Mac running OS x 10.6.4, the bookmarks are fine, with no font substitution. I would like to understand what is happening here. We always full embed our fonts when creating our PDFs, but it doesn't appear that the font used by the software for bookmarking is getting embedded. Is this the case? Is there any way to embed it? If not, what font is being used...is it a system font? And if so, does that mean that the Mac user needs to have the font installed on their system for the bookmarks to read properly and not substitute the font? Any help would be appreciated, as this is affecting many of our customers, and we sell our PDF documents for upwards of a $1000 each.
