Windows xp doesn't recognise any sound device
Hello,
Windows XP doesn't recognise my sound card. I am not sure if it is physically properly connected or not, and I'm not sure how to diagnose whether it is or not.
In device manager, neither the on-board sound nor my audiophile 2496 sound card appear. I have a yellow question mark with "other devices", and there are three devices listed there. One is the ethernet controller (I can't connect to the internet with a cable, I'm using a USB wireless adaptor, but that's another problem for another question). Another says "multimedia audio controller" and the third says just "unknown device".
Presumably one of these is my audiophile 2496? I have installed the drivers from the M-Audio website but that hasn't fixed anything.
Thanks in advance!

Hi there,
Tried your first suggestion and got "The specified location does not contain information about your hardware". I navigated to the MAudioDelta_x86.inf file that I just downloaded and double clicked that.
Tried uninstalling it and scanning for new hardware. It found the device, called it "multimedia audio controller" again and failed to install the drivers or anything properly.
THanks!

The sound card was correctly installed and working before. I've started the computer up after a year, reinstalled XP and now it's not working. It's a desktop.
THanks
