Outlook 2003 Inbox.old
One of my users came to me today because he could find any of his folders that were loacted in his inbox. I fould that all of the folders had been moved to Inbox.old which is loacted under the Inbox. Most of the email from the folders is gone. Can someone tell me where Inbox.old came from and if the old email can be restored?
We are using Exchange 2003 and Outlook 2003.

Can you recover the mailbox from a backup made on the Exchange Server when it was OK ?
Oh, yeah... I forgot the last part of your question...
Do you have deleted item retention turned on?
If so you can just go to the folder in Outlook and look for the menu option (Tools/Actions... in older Outlooks)
"recover deleted items"
But if they were MOVED, I'm not sure if they would be there.
Do a file search for PST files... maybe they archived them somehow.
Make sure you're looking at all folders including hidden.
Other option restore mailbox.... In Exchange 2003 it's fairly easy if you're doing online backups, and have the space to restore the whole database.

I had to do that with a few people recently so their main inbox didn't have 30,000 items.
I don't know of anything that would create a subfolder like that.
