ASP.NET, C#: Fire SelectedIndexChanged from code behind

I have a ASP.NET website programmed in C#. On the website I have a DropDownList containing a list of names. When a name is selected, the SelectedIndexChanged event is triggered and information about the person is retrieved from a database and displayed.

What I'm trying to do is triggering the SelectedIndexChanged from the code-behind file. What happens is that the user clicks on a hyperlink button in a GridView on one page, and is then redirected to the page with the personal information, along with a PersonalId, which is used to select the person in the DropDownList.

However when the paged is loaded and the name is selected in the DropDownList, the SelectedIndexChanged event does not seem to trigger, as no information is collected and displayed about the selected person. How do I trigger the event from the code-behind file??

Hope the above makes sense - if any code is needed, please let me know.
