WINDOWS 7, Run 32-Bit programs on 64-bit platform

I have a Sony VIAO's that shipped with WIN 7 64bit architecture.

It seems that Microsoft have tried to improve the compatibility of 64-bit with 32-bit software on Win 7. However I have software that works on Win 32-bit but when I try to install fails at launch.

Message -
The version of this file is not compatible with the version of Windows you're running. Check your computer's system information to see whether you need an x86 (32-bit) or x64 (64-bit) version of the program, and then contact the software publisher.

I have noticed a x86 program folder in the root drive…?

So questions -

I.      Is there a work around to install 32bit programs on 64bit ?
II.      Is there any emulation software to make this possible

All help much appreciated

What application are you attempting to use?
U Can install 32 Bit Appilcations on 64 Bit on Win7. But u cannot do this vice-versa.

I myself is using Win7 which is 64-bit, where i am using the 32bit version team viewer and many other application.

U can aslo go to task manager & find out what version are u using for your softwares.

Please do let me know for further queries.

Not all applications are compatible with Win 7 or with what you are trying. This is why I asked about the application you are attempting this with. Please include version, etc.

The application I am using is amthird party shipping system GUI. The vender dos not have any updates since a few years ago. I was wondering if it is just a the launch file not pointing at the x86 program file or something....
If there have not been any updates since a few years ago then the issue you are more than likely having is that the application is not compatible with Win7.

> If the application is on a disk then copy the contents of the disk to a directory on your desktop.
> Right click the install package > select properties
> Select 'Compatibility' tab
> Select 'Run As' Windows XP
> Check box for 'Run As Admin'
> Click OK
> Rerun Install Package

If this works for you try then running the application in compatibility mode as well. Simply navigate to the program.exe and follow the above noted steps.

Nice find SemperWifi!!

I have installed the virtual machine and going to test out now.

Is it possible to install windows 7 32bit in the same way? Or would I have to use Parralells or another VM software?

FF
XP Mode is a free functional add on for Win7 and does not support free installs of Win7 32 or 64. However, you can run any OS inside Win7 x64 as a host with a license key and a VM environment.

I suggest looking up some of the functionality presented with XP Mode if you plan or are thinking of using it. http://arstechnica.com/microsoft/reviews/2010/01/windows-xp-mode.ars
Microsoft's Virtual XP mode nailed it.
