Recovered Deleted files - files now have ~pstmp extension

We have an emergency situation at work.  We had some mass file deletions of some really important files.  I scanned the backup drive with some different "undelete" programs, and I see all the files there.  The problem is they are all tagged with ~pstmp at the end.  For instance - Q4_Sales_Goals.xls.~pstmp     This is the same for all types of documents.   I tried just changing the extension, but the file still wont open.

Any ideas?

The files were from our PeerSync backup program.  I ended up using a mass file renamer, and changing all the extensions, then opening each item individually to see if they were corrupt.  We recovered roughly 90%.  Thanks for the help!
I know that dance.  pita!
Glad you found what you needed (90% ain't so bad in most cases).
Thanks for the 'accept', btw ;^)
