Suppress duplication across multiple emails

I know there is a feature in exchange, where if a user is in "DistributionA" and in "DistributionB", exchange ensures the user only recieves one email, if the email is sent to both groups.

Here's the problem I'm having though, I have a program that sends automated emails, all the messages go through exchange at first.  The program splits apart the [to] list, and sends an individual email for each email address entered.  So in my example groups before, DistributionA gets sent and email, then DistributionB gets sent the same exact email, but at slightly different times!

I have control over the headers of the email message send from my program.  I was hoping by attaching a custom header, perhaps assigning a message id that would clue exchange in that this email message was already delivered to this recipient, and thus avoid duplication

I know it's a long shot, but does anyone have any idea if this is possible, and if so what I should research?
