VS 2008 VB.NET ComboBox Question - Suppressing the SelectedIndexChanged Event Handler

I am building a VS 2008 VB.NET Windows application.  When a form loads, it first fills a combobox with data, and I set the SelectedIndex of the combobox to 0 so as to select the first menu item.

The problem I am having is that the programmatic selection of the combobox SelectedIndex is triggering the handler for the combobox's SelectedIndexChanged event.  I only want the SelectedIndexChanged event handler to execute if the user changes the menu item of the combobox manually.

Is there any way I can accomplish the above?

Thank you, Stu Engelman
