Keyboard driver dead on Thinkpad, can't type anything

I have a T60p thinkpad and when installing Iomega's vclone software and VMware it did something that killed my keyboard.  I uninstalled the VMWare where there were hardware conflicts, and it have tried uninstalling and reinstalling my keyboard, where there is a conflict, but it won't come back.  I have a full Acronis backup from two days earlier but it is password protected and I cannot put in the password to use it, even tried pasting but that won't work. HELP!   WinXP Pro

Starting in safe mode doesn't do it either, keyboard still won't work, it hangs on imdrvfsf.sys

Have you tried using an external  USB keyboard to access the backup.
There is also the possibility that the keyboard has died coincidentally rather than due to the VM ware issue.
before running the backup, test the USB keyboard in the BIOS to make sure you can access the USB keyboard through USB legacy drivers. If it doesn't work in BIOS you won't have keyboard support outside of the operating system.

It is definitely the driver, the keyboard works when booting but then after windows loads it will nto work.  Also the device manager shows an issue witht he keyboard.  I tried reinstalling but no luck.  Also, I tried extwernal keyboard but it will nto work either.  Not a coincidence with VMWare driver, they showed conflicts as well whic is why I uninstalled them.
The keyboard does work in BIOS.
WHat about the on screen keyboard found in the program files-->accessories -->accessability --. onboard keyboard.
You would be able to use the mouse to input the password.
Sparkmaker, Great idea, I was wondering where I could do that, I'll give it a shot when I get home to that machine this evening, but it sounds like it should work to let me restore my backup.  Thanks, after I check it out, I'll give you the points.  Thanks again!
