Windows update fails for Microsoft .NET 3.5 SP1 KB951847

I am running XP Pro SP3.

The Windows update install of KB951847 fails. I then see .NET 3.5 listed in add/remove programs, so I tried to remove but that also fails. Please see the attached for screenshots of everything.

Could someone please advise?

On your Add/Remove Programs check "Show Updates" to see if you have some .NET 3.5 updates.

Start removing those updates first.

clonyxlro - There are 3.5 updates, but I cannot un-install those, either, please see the attached.
x3man: - None of the issues/fixes seem to apply to my 3.5 problem.

I had this same problem before and I cant remember what I did to fix it.

1) If you have KB961260 installed before KB951847; uninstall KB961260 then install KB951847; then install again KB961260

2) Remove .net 4.0 install that update then reinstall .net 4.0

I remember doing one of those two to fix it.

You'll probably need to use the MS removal tool.
A previous E_E question has a copy of a recommended procedure by Microsoft, you'll see it if you scroll to the last comment by lucivero.
...then proceed sequentially up to .NET 3.5 SP1 KB951847, and higher.
