We are running MOSS 2007 on a 2008 Standard Server running x64.  Previously, we have been able to successfully apply up to the June Cumulative Update (KB 983310).

According to this site: (http://stabilissolutions.blogspot.com/2008/12/sharepoint-2007-version-numbers.html)  Our current SharePoint version number should display as "12.0.0.6539", however when we click on "Servers in Farm" from the Operations screen under Central Administration it displays only version "12.0.0.6421"  Which is the version number corresponding to the Service Pack 2 update.

This version number discrepancy has been around, but in the past it did not prevent us from applying the Cumulative  updates when they were released.  Now when we attempt to install the August Cumulative Update (the latest) it gives the following error:  "The expected version of the product was not found on the system."

 August CU Update Error
Hopefully we can address the version issue which is most likely give the error when trying to install the August CU.
