Photos attached to emails are embedded in message and attachment lost

I have a client who uses her laptop hard.  She gets >100 emails per day, all sorted and saved in folders or deleted.  The current .pst file is approaching 4GB and she has a 1.9GB archive.  Her app is Outlook 2010 and it runs on XP Pro (all updates applied).

Recently, a colleague of hers sent her about 30 emails with a single photo attached to each.  The photos are about 1 - 2MB each.  When she sees the emails on her Blackberry, the photos are attachments.  On her Dell laptop (Latitude E6500), they come embedded in the message and there are no attachments.

We have ESET SmartSecurity 4.2 installed.

Any ideas why this is happening?

The user who sent her the emails sent them embedded in the email and Outlook is reading them normally.

The blackberry does not open embedded images to save on bandwidth, on her blackberry she can choose to open/view the image.  Everything seems to be working correctly it just has different methods.

According to my client, the person sending them to her says they are attached.  I will ask him to send me a couple of them tonight and see how I get them.
Thanks.

My client was incorrect as to what was really going on here, so the question is irrelevent.
