Dell 5310n - Unable to print a Word document correctly

Hi there,

We have a Dell 5310n which was given to us recently. It works well and fast for most documents but we have an issue printing files such as this:
http://www.infomedltd.co.uk/downloads/other/gp_brochure.docx

The first page prints like this:
http://www.infomedltd.co.uk/downloads/other/gp_brochure_1st_page_scan.jpg
The print preview looks fine.

I tried it on a Dell 1700n and it prints perfectly so I presume it is a setup issue with the printer but not sure where.

Also, it is very very slow to print excel spreadsheets, again not sure why.

Would appreciate any help.

Thanks,
Jack

This doesn`t seem to be a hardware problem.

First thing , what version of office do you currently run ? Same on both computers ?
What Windows do you run on both computers ?

Only using one computer and get different results on two printers. It is Office 2007 and Windows XP SP3.

Have just tried from another PC which is the same setup and again it prints strangely on the 5310n but perfectly on the 1700n.
hmm...

Can you print a test page on the printer ? It prints ok ?

Yes, most things print perfectly - it is just some of these word documents it seems to do this to.

If I create a PDF from this Word doc using the MS PDF converter for Office 2007 the front page from that is fine too.

They are current - the printer didn't come with any discs so had to download from the Dell site. Last release date is 2/2/07!

Thanks. It was on a PS driver and did not have a PCL option installed for some reason. I installed the PCL version on my SBS 2003 and set it so but for some reason this meant that the PCs lost connection to the printer and I had to reinstall them on each one!

Now that is done the printing is working perfectly!

Many thanks,
Jack
