Good Morning -

Currently, I have many workstations which I believe to no longer be on my network.  Many of these are still displayed in active directory, though.

At a previous job, we had a seemingly simply web based (for viewing at least) utility which would do pings to workstations at various intervals.  It would display when the last time a workstation was pinged therefore if it had been a long time, we knew it was okay to remove from AD.

oes anyone have suggestions of a utility similar or perhaps another method for cleaning this up?  I've been assigned to identify some hostname which I cannot locate.

- We use DHCP w/o reservations on many devices so it would have to be by hostname, not IP.
- We have about 500 workstations in our domain
- Open Source software MUCH preferred
- Windows-based preferred, but can run Linux apps if needed
