Hi experts,

I have a new high-spec'd rack mounted server with Ubuntu 10.04 Server running on the bare metal. It has 8GB of ram and an i7 processor.

I have another instance of Ubuntu 10.04 Server running on qemu-kvm which I control using virsh -c qemu:///system

I have set up USB Passthrough to this server as per this blog http://david.wragg.org/blog/2009/03/usb-pass-through-with-libvirt-and-kvm.html

The problem that I am having is that when I try to copy to the NTFS USB hard drive the transfer rates are ridiculously slow (2GB / hour) and the memory usage on the virtual machine is extremely high.

I have attached the outputs of top and dmesg on the virtual server as well as dmesg on the physical server.

Any suggestions? If worst comes to worst I will copy via SCP on the physical server from the virtual server to the external drive.

Cheers,
Michael
