451 4.4.0:535 5.7.3 Authentication unsuccessful. Attempted failover to another host, but that did not succeed. Either there are no alternate host or the delivery did not succeed to all alternate hosts
I just installed Exchange 2010 into existing Exchange 2003 organization.
All installation seemed to go well.
I have moved one mailbox from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2010 and it was finished sucesfully.
Emails are being received on the maibox that was moved to Exchange 2010, but I am unable to send emails from it. They are stuck in the queue with following message:
451 4.4.0 Primary target IP address responded with: "535 5.7.3 Authentication unsuccessful. Attempted failover to another host, but that did not succeed. Either there are no alternate host or the delivery did not succeed to all alternate hosts."

At the moment:
I can receive emails on mailboxes residing on Exchange 2003 from external email.
From Exchanege 2003 I can send emails to mailboxes that reside on Exchange 2010 and to external emails.
I can send emails between mailboxes that are on exchange 2010.
I CANNOT send emails to mailboxes residing on Exchange 2003 (or external) from Exchange 2010.
I see that I have 2 "recieve connectors" called
"Client EX20101"
"Default EX2010"
and only one Send Connector
"Internet Mail SMTP Connector (EX2003)"
Should there be additional send connector?

Telnet to port 25 works both ways.
I did run BPA with following results:
Health, Permissions, Conectivity and Baseline test completed with no errors or warnings.
(unless I do not know how to run the scans)
I do not see any issues during the instal (I did the recommended install)

In order to troubleshoot this I did run Mailbox Flow Troubleshooter that pointed out that the port 25 on the Exchange 2003 did not respond.
It was a surprise as I was able to telnet to it on port 25, and it was responding just fine.
Eventually I went to properties for Default SMTP Virtual Server and under IP Address that was set at "All Unassigne" changed it to main IP address of that server ( tere was also IP address of the RAS interface of the server) - that did the trick.
Mail started to flow without any issues.
