"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

AD cannot work without DNS..
But DNS can also used in stand alone..

DNS is used for Name Resolution IP to name and Name to IP

DNS is used for Internet service

DNS is used for DC locator process in AD ( for client s to find the nearest DC)

AD is an database of objects such as user, groups etc..

AD is used to minimize Administration..
user account is centrally administrated

i have poured some water for ur question...
please let us know.. if any other questions u have in this concept...

Cheers,
Prem
