AD cannot work without DNS..
But DNS can also used in stand alone..

DNS is used for Name Resolution IP to name and Name to IP

DNS is used for Internet service

DNS is used for DC locator process in AD ( for client s to find the nearest DC)

AD is an database of objects such as user, groups etc..

AD is used to minimize Administration..
user account is centrally administrated
