Can't open a .pdf file in IE8

sehenderson23 used Ask the Experts™
I'm running IE8 on a 64-bit Vista machine.  When I try to open a .pdf file in a browser, I receive the error message:
'The Adobe Acrobat/Reader that is running can not be used to view PDF files in a Web Browser.  Adobe Acrobat/Reader version 8 or 9 is required.  Please exit and try again.'
I have Reader 9 and Acrobat from CS5 installed and fully operational.  What do I need to do to view .pdf files in Internet Explorer 8?

Did u try to disable the "PDF in Browser"-setting in Adobe? The PDF will open in the Adobe window and not in the browser window anymore, but at least it didn't crash.
Go to Start>Default Programs>Associate a file type or protocol with a program
Make Acrobat Reader the default, I bet it is set to Acrobat right now.

Use foxit reader. Free software, faster and more secure.
