We have couple of applications on ASP .NET. We are considering building a new dev environment to look into using MS Sharepoint technologies. The plan is to have both environmnts setup and use them as applicable. I am MS Sharepoint begineer and would appreciate if there is a generic document that lists a decision matrix (like a flow chart/ check list) that will give us pointer to when it decide a new application be developed using MS Sharepoint or using ASP .NET.

Any comments are appreciated.

Thanks for the pointers.. however with these websites the info is all over the place .. hence was specifically requesting if you are aware of any document that lists like a flowchart (Yes or No ) questions to differentiate when to use .NET vs Sharepoint to build web applications.
I don't think such a flowchart exists.  I have never come across one.

I think the decision on whether an app should be developed in SharePoint or ASP.NET is whether SharePoint has pre-built functionality that the app is going to need, e.g. document management, team collaboration features....

If there isn't a compelling need for the app to use SharePoint functionality then building it in SharePoint rather than just ASP.NET only adds complexity, time and cost.

If you are just starting out developing with SharePoint, prepare yourself for some frustration and allow for lots of R&D time.
