BOOTMGR is missing on HP COMPAQ mini 110c-111ej

Hello,

I have HP mini 110c laptop, windows xp won't load and instead I have this message "BOOTMGR IS MISSING press ctrl+alt+delete to restart"
There is no recovery partition and no advanced settings in bios. I tried reinstalling using an external usb cd drive but setup cannot find any hard drivers.
I have also tried to slipstream the drivers from HP website (intel ich7) from the expanded driver folder. Still setup says
no hard drives found..

Please any ideas maybe how to workaround and fix the error? I have tried bootrec /FixBoot using windows 7 repair cd as a last resort but that didn't help either..

any ideas?

Does the BIOS see the hard disk?  If it doesn't then that needs replacing.

This may also be a SATA drive (I can't quite identify the model exactly).  If so look in the BIOS and see if the drive interface can be changed to Legacy or PATA or compatible.  If you can do that then try the reinstall again.

Try booting from the CD and do a repair install http://michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm
DONT try and repair with a Vista or Win7 DVD - they are very different and you may well do more harm then good

I know, just needed an access to the drive, because windows setup won't recognize it.
I wrote in the thread all I have done, basically I think I may have the wrong sata drivers for HP COMPAQ MINI 100c-1110ej
which is different from other models, no recovery partition, no CD drive, no hard drive configure options in bios..

This looks like your laptop http://bizsupport1.austin.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&taskId=120&prodSeriesId=4004494&prodTypeId=321957&prodSeriesId=4004494&objectID=c01882011

From there it looks like it uses the GMA 950 video chipset.

That is used in the Intel 940GML, 945G, 945GU and 945GT system chipsets. from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intel_GMA#GMA_950

I can't identify which of those it actually uses.

If you are slipstreaming confident then look at Nlite http://www.nliteos.com/ and DriverPacks http://driverpacks.net/  I note that the DriverPacks does include some of the 945 chipset drivers within.

It sounds to me like your Hard Drive is bad, that is why setup can not see it.

Hmm, KCTS, why shouldn't he use Windows 7 repair disk? According to the error message he gets the machine was downgraded from Windows Vista or Windows 7 to Win XP. BootMGR is Vista style of booting.
Thus get a copy of Windows 7 repair CD, you can get one here www.neosmart.net
Boot from it and perform startup repair. For me the problem sounds like your system partition became inactive to some reason.
You can boot the machine from Parted Magic 5 CD and set it active. Or use some third party tools such as Paragon Backup & Recovery Home: www.drive-backup.com they have good boot CD based on WinPE that will show the status of your disk exactly.

Windows 7 has drivers for it already. That's why you could install it.

I know, it is a shame for HP I could not find the right sata drivers for this specific model hp mini 110c-1110ej
with windows 7 it's much easier.
Thank you !
