open firewall port based on hostname

Is it possible to open firewall port based on hostname. We have an app server which will connect to an Akamai hosted website  and pull the data. As you might be aware that Akamai hosted websites do not have the same IP all the time, is it possible to open firewall port based on the domain name of the website.

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Yes you can add such a domain name in Check Point.

Just ensure that you have a working DNS configured for the name resolve.

I don't think this can be done in a reliable manner. The app server and firewall can have different views of the website IP. Since the DNS server does not reply with the same IP address, the FW and the server may have different IP addresses for the same name.

Just be careful here - I seem to remember that the "dynamic" object only gets resolved once on policy push and not every time a request is made ..

grimkin rang a bell there, I do recall that this does indeed work on CP but with the caveats above.

Where possible, do not use DNS names for security policies as it may lead to some unexpected results.
