my "To" name is wrong in Outlook 2011

I have Outlook 2011 on Mac connected to exchange. So whenever i send someone an email it has the correct name as it is through exchange i guess. When i receive email it say in the heads "To: John" when my name is Jack. John is the name that the product is registered to. I went into account settings and it is set to the correct name in there. For somereason it keeps saying To "the registered name" instead of mine. Its annoying because when you reply to someones email and it includes the original email it has some one else name but with my email address.

Send yourself a test message to an external email address, See what the email has for the name/email address at the external email address. Then reply to the message and check whether the name is now reflecting John versus Jack.

It is possible that the person from whom you are getting the email, has a typo in your name.  Usually the To/From entries are not modified.

Basically all email coming through (externally) are received with the To filed in the top as incorrect. If i send an email to an external account and it is received and appears as it should with the correct To field. when i reply i receive it and the To field is incorrect (but with the correct email address). the to field is appearing as the Office suite registered name. I dont know if this is cooincidence or a setting somewhere....

When you are logged into the local system, and hit start, who does it say is logged in Jack or John?
It might be that the AD has the typo.  If you look at the source of the message does it show John or Jack or does it only have the email address in the To: <youremail@domain.com>?

If you send your self a message from an external source in the following format for the To: field
"Your name" <youremailaddress@yourdomain.com>

Does the message still reflect John as the recipient in the To: field?

Check the configuration of your Reply-to: tools/account options/ etc.

Do you have anything configured there? remove anything from there and see whether the issue persists.  (reply-to is a directive to email clients to use this email address rather than the From: email address).

Look in the contacts within outlook , specifically look for the 'me' contact - check if its named with the incorrect name, if it is correct it. The problem happened in entourage 2008 also - the me contact overruled any other - when the email address matched the incoming emails TO: address it replaced the name with whatever was in this contact.

ok this is weird. When i go into contacts there are no contacts whatsoever. but when i click search and type in the 'wrong name' that has been appearing or even my real email address it comes up with the dud contact but i cannot delete it or alter it.

it has my email address with the incorrect name.

i created a new contact with my real name and email address, now when i search my email address with right one and the original wrong one appears.

Ok so the first thing is to determine where the dud contact is coming from. Is it on your exchange server (potentially a global contact that you cant edit - no permissions ? check with your exchange admin). Maybe its something local look in the 'my computer-> contacts' in entourage.

Essentially there are 3 locations, GAL (global address list - exchange) - exchange account contacts (expand your work section in entourage and click contacts)- and finally your local contacts (shown above).

Check all 3 for the dud contact - but with you being unable to remove or edit it, i suspect its in the GAL (global address list)

its not in the GAL. I logged onto our terminal server and ran outlook 2007 so i could easily view the GAL and there are only 10 names in this list (small business) and they are all correct.

Im using outlook 2011 on the mac, when i click on contacts, the dud contact does not show unless i search it.

i cannot find exchange account contacts (expand your work section in entourage and click contacts)- and finally your local contacts (shown above)

nor can i find

local look in the 'my computer-> contacts' in entourage.

The entry might be in the AD.  Check with your admin.

I'm having the same problem with my Office 2011 installs. There is not an uninstaller for Office 2011 like there was for Office 2004. Does anyone know how this was resolved?

Thanks

I got it, had to delete these two files:

~/Library/Preferences/com.microsoft.office.plist
~/Library/Preferences/com.microsoft.office.setupassistant

Then launch office and put in the correct info. Then I had to delete my outlook profile and setup a new one. The old profile keeps the incorrect info otherwise.
