Word 2007 suddenly shows me strange characters. How do I get rid of them?

you activated the option to show whitespaces and Line breaks.
Look for the Toolbar button with the same symbol, it should be lpokated on the
'home' ribbon. You can also user CTRL-O

That sign is for showing the end of lines.

You have clicked on ¶ symbol on your tools bar... if you point at it, it says hide/show... just select that and they will disappear.
