I am taking a backup of a host server with Hyper-V.  i am using ArcServe r12 SP2. On this particular server, every time I take a backup, the host server goes to BSOD however the host server does not shut down. I only notice there is a problem when I log on and find a window to leave comments for reasons of the unexpected shut down. I ran Blue Screen Viewer and found that the drivers that are in conflict are ntoskrnl.exe and storvsc.sys. I've googled it and it seems that the problem is related to HyperV. I think this is correct as I isolated the backup of the Hyper-V VSS Writer (using ArcServe) and it failed. The backup will always stop at the point of accessing Microsoft Hyper-V VSS Writer. I have other servers with the same setup and don't have this problem so I wonder if there is someone out here who can enlighten us. Thanks in advance.

Let's start this journey with the VSS Admin tools and by poking around the event logs.   Both will provide good clues that we can use to diagnose the problem

Look for and Event Source of "VSS" or an Event ID 5013
