What are you trying to do - map drives, remote control, run applications etc?

when you launch the app are you using the local ip? or an external ip once you are conncetted via pptp?
By configuration I take it you mean resolution/security settings? If so, it really depends on the connectivity. I tend to run all my connections at the highest avaiilable on the PC/server and adjust couour/resolution depending on my connection speeds

ok i am going to try the app and post results soon
I use the LAN IP address or, what you can do, is modify the PPTP connection DNS settings so it uses or internal DNS server - that way you can connect using the FQDN of the PC
Try Logmein's Ignition. www.logmein.com   Works very well on my iTouch and uses the same ports as Skype so I did not have to fuss with the Firewall settings.
