new XP install/no internet connectivity

I installed XP pro 64 on a partition of my multi boot system which also runs Vista and W7.
The XP install completed, but there is no internet/network connection.  Network adapter properties says it has a driver, and is working properly.  Status shows zero packets sent or received.  If there is additional info that may be helpful, I will check next time I am in the system.
XP was installed after Vista and W7; not sure if it makes a difference with network connection..
Motherboard is Abit K9SLI.  I checked Abit site for drivers and they have an XP64 chip set driver available, which I download and it a corrupt/empty .zip each time.

Check your Event Logs to see if there are any errors. Also post your "ipconfig /all" to this thread. Have you tried a static IP address?

ipconfig/all returns:  "Windows IP Configuration"
try static IP address: no change in adapter status

Right click adapter and select Repair returns this:
Failed To Query TCP/IP settings of the connection. Cannot proceed
I'll check the event log next time I am in the system.
All ipconfig /all returns is the title line, no data? To me, that would mean that the driver is bad.
