HI

I am using Trixbox 2.6.1 which is running Asterisk 1.4.20-1 .  Today its service 'asterisk' stopped responding, no once could make/receive calls, if I ran command '
"service asterisk status"

it returned output

"asterisk dead but subsystem locked"

If I restart service asterisk then it resumes calling.  Today I restarted asterisk than 10-15 mintes later it hung again so i had to restart it again.

I checked all relevent log files but did not any clue why this service hung.  Now i have enabled debug logs to find more granular logs to identify the issue if it appears again.

Is there any other way to find out the root cause why asterisk service behaved like this ?

Are you running trixbox by starting the asterisk service or by using amportal? The asterisk service should not be used to start asterisk. Use amportal start or amportal restart to start asterisk. This runs a watch dog to restart asterisk if it quits.
I object to closing with refund. I am really tired of answering questions only to have the asker close the question with refund by saying they did not get an answer when they provide NO feedback to the only person that responded. If I did not answer the question to your satisfaction then please let me know so I can provide a better response. This will help you and all others that may come across this question in the future which is really the point of having a system likes Experts Exchange.

I wanted to know the reason for asterisk dying while the respose was to how to restart asterisk.
Ok, we will need a lot more information to determine why it crashed. The reason I initially asked if it was being run as a service or from amportal determines which log files to look at first. I still don't know that but let's start by assuming it is running from the amportal file. Can you provide the information in the /var/log/asterisk/full file for the 3-5 minutes before it crashed? This should help us to see what asterisk was doing when it died. We may also need information from the /var/log/messages file for the 3-5 minutes before and a 2-3 minutes after. This should give us an idea what the system was doing when it crashed and what it did after it crashed.

HI

I could not get that log, since this is a production server, I let it run after restart it using 'amportal restart' .  If it goes down again, I'll get logs and update here.
