UEx cannot save to remote location (.gvfs)

Since upgrading to Ubuntu 10.10, I can open files but can no longer save them to my Debian Lenny server from UEx (Ultra Edit for Linux).  I receive the error: "can't open file '/home/glen/.gvfs/ ... on server/ ...' (error 22: Invalid argument)."

When I close the program, the file disappears!

I can open and save files to the server w/ gEdit.

Ultra Edit Support are working to resolve the issue, but tell me that their setup successfully saves files to a remote location.  I'm afraid I may be left hanging!

Is this an Ubuntu issue?  An Ultra Edit issue?  A configuration issue?  Can I resolve it myself?

What's the best way to handle this?
