enter valid email address error

Hi, i have exchange 2010 installed on win server 2008. Shared contacts is setup and configured on all 8 computers.

In shared contacts, if they right mouse click, create, new message to contact we get the error

you must first enter a valid email address for this contact before outlook can send mail to it.

problem is it already has a valid email address, it happens on every contact. If we create a new email and then select the contact everything works fine.

You need to remove each contact and re-add it, I know this sounds tedious.  You can automate the process by using a macro program such as;


Also you could export the entire contacts folder to Excel, create a new contacts folder and import from the Excel file.  Once this works (which is will), delete the corrupt contacts folders.
