I now get this message about every 10 minutes and will have it again before this message is completed ...I am ready to take hostages...help!

windows xp prof. sp3

the whiz bang patch (.bat) did not work neither did closing ports 135 and 442 (or whatever the 2 close to those numbers) just got the error need to close before I can't send this message. when the error hits me it knocks me offline and  am forced to restart. I have done the trick where you go into the registry and change a couple of values according to another f'fix" to the problem...no norton installed on my machine

Did you check the memory from your system and the harddrive for any errors?

Also check for malware, spyware, etc.

WHICH PROGRAM should I run to check my memory?
For the memory test and hard drive test you can use Ultimate Boot CD http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/
Burn the iso file to a CD and boot it from the CD.

For checking Malware, Spyware, etc you can use Hit Man Pro, http://www.surfright.nl/en
This needs to be installed under windows.

I would suggest first to use Utlimate Boot CD to eliminate any memory errors and/or hard disk errors.

memtest
http://www.memtest.org/

but I don't think it's the issue. Try reinstalling the drivers of LAN NIC and WiFi, for a good start

None that coincide with the onset of the error messages ... I started noticing it more right when I switched from Cable internet to using a wireless dial up broadband product ...

If that doesnt work, perhaps look at another fast tool.  http://www.softpedia.com/progDownload/Windows-Worms-Doors-Cleaner-Download-107294.html

I downloaded it and it actually warned me I had a few things to secure.
