DotNetNuke: Conditional code in skin

In my website, the starting page is a bit different from all the other pages. It's an introduction page so there's no menu and only the ContentPane has a little content.
I now have two skins for my website. The original one, and a second one that I have made myself by deleting the menu and other panes from the original one.
This works fine, but is not a great solution. I have to maintain two skins when I want to make chances in the design, for instances.

It would be better to have only one skin, and implement some conditional content that makes the skin hide the menu and panes if you're on the starting page.
So someting like:
<% If DotNetNuke.Page("Starting Page") Then%> <Menu> <% End If %>

What is the correct conditional code? And is this a (more) decent solution?

try
<% If PortalSettings.ActiveTab.TabId=PortalSettings.HomeTabId Then%> <Menu> <% End If %>

while that might work for the menu, it will not work for the contentpanes. The way dotnetnuke handles the skin files, panes will always be visible AFAIK
