We have an issue where users save files to a DFS store over a high-speed WAN link (10Mb) and it takes sevaral minutes for the file to appear. Thus, users end up saving the file numerous times. What can cause this and how can I troubleshoot this issue?

Thanks.

Check the DFS root. Are all root target that are listed accessible shares on living servers? If a dead server is in the list, it can dramatically slow down DFS performance.

All are accessible shares. Any other ideas?
Does the remote site have a DC? If so, do you use DFS Root Replicas?
If you perform a dfsutil /pktinfo is the entire DFS hierarchy is resolved?

And how did you map the DFS root? Is it \\domainname\dfsroot\ or \\domainname\dfsroot\? If it is with a \ in the end,try removing this \.This also goes for shares eg. \\domainname\dfsroot\documents\. Never end with a \.

Do you have any DFS errors in your Event Viewer?

Yes the remote site has a DC. Not sure about the DFS Root Replicas, I'll have to check. No errors last time I looked, but I'll check again.
