Backup Group Policies Import to another Domain

We are now to the point in our growth we need a development domain.  I would like to backup all the group policies on our production domain and import them into a development domain.

It does not have to retain security filters, linked OU's, etc.  THe development doman will be very watered down and contain bascially the same structure but not many users.

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Take a look at the scripts included with the GPMC. That should be able to do what you need.

Assuming you're using at least Windows Server 2008 you can use the backup feature (not sure about earlier versions)
Right click on teh container that holds all of your GPOs and select backup all.  Follow the wizard to back them to somewhere.

When you come to import them, in your new domain, again right-click the container, select manage backups and foloow the wizard.  If you need to change values within the policies you can use the table migration editor.  You get to this by also right clicking the GPO container, it allows you to effectively 'find and replace' in each of your policies.

Download gpmc.msc if you haven't already. Right click the GPO, click Back-up. This'll let you "Back it up". You should be able to just import it into the new domain.
