We have several HP t5740 Thinclients that we will be using to connect to a vmware view connection server. We have that set up and working using the built-in HP easyconfig. There is no option in easyconfig for RDP. We have two virtual machines that we still need to use RDP for and I can't find any documentation anywhere on how to set it up so it connects and goes right into the login box for the VM like we can do using View. The older TC's we have work fine but the new ones use Windows Embedded 2009. I can open RDP from the tc and connect but we need it so the users don't see the embedded OS.

Thanks

I've ran into this with Windows Embedded. You can create the RDP file and save it into the user startup folder and make sure the Reconnect option is enabled.

Not an expert in WE2009, but alot of similarity 9in the likes for using a system as a public Kiosk in a way... Might try changing the shell value in the WE2009 to c:\windows\system32\mstsc.exe <.rdp file> here....

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon

Hello Nocalerts,

Please find below steps on how to use HP T5740 WES2009 Thinclient RDP in Kiosk mode:

Configuring Windows Embedded 2009:
1.      Log on to XPe with the Administrator account
2.      Launch Regedit
3.      Select the HKEY_USERS hive

4.      Select File > Load Hive
5.      Drill down to C:\Documents and Settings\User and select NTUSER.DAT
6.      Assign a name to the key e.g. TEMP
7.      Open the TEMP key and drill down to Software\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon
8.      Create a new “String Value” – SHELL =   wscript  c:\rdp.vbs
                    Where  c:\rdp.vbs is a VB Script reside on the root C:\ (I will provide you with the script down)
9.      Collapse +TEMP Key
10.      Select File > Unload Hive
11.      Copy the rdp.vbs to the c:\ root directory
12.               Create an rdp file with your appropriate TS(RDS) Server IP and save it, then copy it to the C:\ root directory for example: TSserver.rdp
13.      Commit the changes to flash and reboot the Thin Client.

N.B: Make sure in Control Panel under HP Logon Manager that auto logon is selected for the user.

The method described above, will lock down the user desktop while allowing the Administrator to access the traditional desktop.

Here is the Script:

'=====================================================
'      Relaunch MS RDP Client
'=====================================================

strComputer = "."

Set objWMIService = GetObject("winmgmts:\\" & strComputer & "\root\cimv2")
Set objShell = CreateObject("Wscript.Shell")

Do While True
    Set colProcesses = objWMIService.ExecQuery _
        ("Select * from Win32_Process Where Name = 'mstsc.exe'")
    If colProcesses.Count = 0 Then
        objShell.Run "mstsc.exe C:\TSServer.rdp"
    End If
    Wscript.Sleep 600
Loop

I'm sure this will help you to set up HP T5740 as an RDP in Kiosk mode.

Cheers,
-CHARBEL-
