Upgrade IOS Cisco 6509 Switch

I have a Cisco 6509 switch with redundant 720/MSFC3 supervisors that needs the IOS upgraded to a newer version so I can install a line card WS-X6708-10GE in Slot 3.

I have new ios bin file: s72033-adventerprisek9_wan-mz.122-33.SXH7.bin

These are my planned steps:

copy tftp: disk0:
**ip address x.x.x.x
**source file name: s72033-adventerprisek9_wan-mz.122-33.SXH7.bin
**destination file name: s72033-adventerprisek9_wan-mz.122-33.SXH7.bin

dir disk0:

boot system flash disk:0/s72033-adventerprisek9_wan-mz.122-33.SXH7.bin

reload (should I do a /verify?)

show version

show redundancy

show redundancy states

redundancy force-switchover (test the hot supervisor)

redundancy force-switchover (shift control back to primary supervisor)

I believe there is enough space on disk0: to hold both IOS versions:

#dir disk0:
Directory of disk0:/

    1  -rw-    74273252   Oct 6 2005 23:10:34 -07:00  s72033-entservicesk9_wan-mz.122-18.SXE3.bin

512065536 bytes total (437788672 bytes free)

I divided 512065536 by a 1024 twice and got 488mb total and divided 427788672 by 1024 twice and got 417 free. So 488 minus 417 tells me that the current IOS is about 71mb and the new IOS is 76 mb so they both shold fit.
Requirments for memory:
ADVANCED ENTERPRISE SERVICES SSH
s72033-adventerprisek9_wan-mz.122-33.SXH7.bin
Release Date: 15/Mar/2010

Size: 78535.54 KB  (80420388 bytes)
Minimum Memory: DRAM:512 MB  Flash:512 MB

What I have:
"sh ver" shows dram as 458720K/65536K bytes of memory. 458720k used plus 65536k free and divide total by 1024 comes out to 511.96 or 512mb of DRAM

"sh ver" shows flash as 65536K bytes of Flash. Divide 65536 by 1024 and I get 64mb of flash and that is why I have to use disk0: with a 512 mb PCMCIA card inserted.

Why is the requirement for flash 512mb when the ios is only 76 mb?

There is only 2mb of nvram?

thanks mikebernhardt,

I successfully upgraded the IOS on both supervisors today.

These IOS images are 70 to 75 mb and I only calculate 62.5mb total  (65536000 divided by 1024 two times) in sup-bootflash.
