SMB outbound connections not working on Mac OSX 10.3.9

We have a drive image (of OSX 10.3.9) that is used on a bunch of G4 computers (I know, move to a newer OS...we can't yet, long story). Anyways, that image has always served us well. For some reason, I setup another MAC and it's having problems connecting to ANY smb server. I can connect to AFP machines, but not SMB. Is it possible that the OS isn't allowing any SMB connections? On the client machine...?

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Do you do any configuration after the client is imaged?
Have you tried to re-image the client?
Is the Mac you have problems with the same model as all others that have used this image?
Anything you can think of that would be different?
How are you connecting to the servers?
