To automatically log out users that are disconnected through RDP in Windows 2008 follow the following steps:
  • START -> Programs -> Administrative Tools -> Terminal Services -> Terminal Services Configuration
(If you don't see the icon, you can manually launch it by launching MMC, then add/remove snapin and choose Terminal Services Configuration)
  • From here in the main Window you should see a connections box with one item in it called RDP-Tcp, double click on the RDP-Tcp.
  • Go to the Sessions Tab.
  • From here you can override user settings and either set disconnected sessions to expire after a certain time period at the top or you can set it at the bottom so that when a session limit is reached or connection broken to just End Session.
