Cisco: Possible to upgrade IOS on switch out of warranty but still supported?

I need to purchase several switches for an upgrade.  I am considering Cisco’s SMARtnet for the troubleshooting functionality.  I am reviewing the “Cisco SMARTnet Servics” PDF and they have a chart that says the standard warranty, the one that allows you to replace software media during first 90 days, says that Cisco IOS software updates and upgrades are not supported and that I have to have the SMARTnet services.

So my questions:

1) If I want to update the IOS for, let’s say, 5 3750 switches, would I need a SMARTnet subscription for all 5 switches?

2) Can I just have one (1) 3750 covered and piggyback the updates to the others?

3) Does Cisco really require me to have SMARTnet subscription for all Cisco devices if I want to upgrade IOS?

And help with sources would be greatly appreciated.

I can't be of huge assistance but i think you'd get a more reliable answer out of cisco directly rather than asking on an internet forum.
I'd be leaning towards the official line being one contract per device.

Good advice, Hitman.  I may call them in the morning depending on what EE does.

Officially you are required to purchase a smartnet for each device you want to upgrade. You need at least one smartnet to be able to register it at Cisco to get a login with which you can download the software. Theoretically this means that one smartnet should suffice because when you have the software you can update as many devices as you want....
To do it by the book: check what the cheapest smartnets are for your devices (minimal support options, shortest period, etc) and purchase one for each device. Licensewise you're fully covered then.

Ernie was right on with his answer.  He and Cisco have the same responce   to my answer.
